Following stunning first Serie A goal, Diogo Dalot’s agent discusses Man United future

The agent of on-loan Manchester United star Diogo Dalot has opened up on his client’s future, on the back of his first Serie A goal.

Milan switch

Portuguese stopper Dalot has of course been on the books of the Red Devils since the summer of 2018.

The now-21-year-old was brought in from Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto, amid sky-high expectations at Old Trafford.

To say that his stint in Manchester, thus far, has not gone according to plan, though, would be putting it lightly. Despite having been tipped as the long-term successor to Gary Neville by Jose Mourinho, Dalot went on to notch just 13 Premier League starts across his first two seasons with United.

In turn, when Aaron Wan-Bissaka was brought in from Crystal Palace in a big-money deal in 2019, the writing appeared very much on the wall for the Reds’ out-of-favour right-back.

And a year and just 4 Premier League appearances later, Dalot’s Old Trafford exit was finally forthcoming.

The Porto youth product made the move to Serie A giants AC Milan on a season-long loan, back in October.

‘Happy in Milan’

To this point, Dalot has enjoyed an altogether hit-and-miss stint with the Rossoneri, having generally been utilised as a backup option to first-choice full-backs Davide Calabria and Theo Hernandez.

When handed the opportunity to impress, though, the stopper, for the most part, has done so, en route to a pair of goals and assists across 20 total appearances.

His latest telling contribution came this past weekend, when Dalot rattled home his first goal in Serie A courtesy of a wonderful finish from the edge of the area versus Hellas Verona.

And, as outlined above, on the back of his client’s latest fine showing, Dalot’s agent has today opened up on the Portuguese’s future.

Speaking in an interview with CalciomercatoCarlos Goncalves first confirmed that Dalot is indeed enjoying life at the San Siro:

‘When he came to Milan, he knew he was arriving at a great club for history and tradition, one of the best in the world. For this, he chose the Rossoneri.’

‘And when you play for a team like this, it’s normal to compete for the Scudetto. There’s an excellent relationship with [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and the other team-mates, he’s happy in Milan.’

Goncalves added, though, that his client’s future, as things stand, remains altogether up in the air, with contact yet to be made by Milan over the possibility of a permanent deal:

‘Thursday will be a very special match for him. Right now he’s a Milan player, on loan from Manchester United, but he wants to do well for his current club. If he was playing against another team, it wouldn’t have been different.’

‘At the right time, his future will also be discussed. He has to train at his best and take advantage of every opportunity, the rest will take care of itself.’

‘There’s no contact now, but it’s normal. The focus is all on the field. Later we will talk about it and we’ll see what happens.’
