Newcastle vs Wolves

Saturday’s Premier League action will draw to a close in the North East as Newcastle welcome Wolves to St James’ Park.

Newcastle head into the weekend’s action very much in the relegation scrap.

The Magpies are currently sitting just three points clear of 18th-place Fulham, with a much worse goal difference than Scott Parker’s side.

Fulham also have a very winnable match against Crystal Palace this weekend, meaning Newcastle can not really afford to drop points against Nuno Santo’s side.

That is easier said than done, though, as Wolves now look to be finally finding some form after a fairly poor 2020/21 overall.

Wolves are now unbeaten in their last four league outings, three of which they picked up victories in to climb up to 12th in the table.

Steve Bruce gives Newcastle injury update

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Steve Bruce held his latest pre-match press conference on Friday.

During the presser, Bruce would provide updates on several players

The Newcastle boss confirmed that Fabian Schar is still on crutches, whilst Callum Wilson is said to be three or four weeks away from a return:

“Manquillo is doing very well with his ankle. Fabian Schär is still on crutches and a knee brace. Callum Wilson is now three or four weeks away so he’s making good progress but it’s a muscle injury so we have to box clever with it.”

Elsewhere, Joelinton is said to be fine, and though Federico Fernandez has been training, the Wolves tie may come too soon for the defender:

“Joelinton is OK. Federico Fernández has trained all week but tomorrow still might be a bit too early for him. We have no new injuries.”
